The Elwood Clothing office fit out was an exercise in combining new workplace & brand recognition with the symbiotic recycling of redundant
building stock. Elwood Clothing, (a local jeans and street-ware retailer’s) motto of ‘Tomorrow’s Vintage’ provided a perfect fit for this ‘retain /re-use /re-cycle’ ideology.
The brief required not only an aesthetic response, but a strategy of ‘assimilation’ with the existing building – one that would become a market symbol for the Elwood
identity. Within a modest budget the new environment had to be open, relaxed and inclusive. This project was unique in that it presented a rare symbiotic nexus
in evolution of both building and tenant (not often found in corporate fit-outs). The old building stock with all its devalued latent ingredients in fact became
the tenant’s brand. The design process was evolutionary where things were tried and re-tried typifing Elwood’s ‘slow and evolving’ over ‘fast fashion’ approach.
